Meet Shoestring Warrior & Physical Therapist Tracey

Physical therapist, proud grandmother and world traveler Tracey has walked the Camino de Santiago, a pilgramage stretching over 500-miles across Spain, and she’s not done yet. After earning her Wilderness First Aid certification with Shoestring Adventures this fall at Sturtevant Camp, she is prepared for wherever her two feet take her next, perhaps the Lost Coast in Northern California or Kilimanjaro!

During the Wilderness First Aid Course, Tracey was prepared for the rest of us! Our trip leader got a cold, and Tracey came to the rescue with healing remedies. Her kindness will not soon be forgotten.

Learn more about Tracey in our interview below, including her advice for first-time campers!

Tell us about yourself!

I’m a mother and grandmother who believes I’m not done yet. I’m a regular hiker and yoga instructor. I’ve walked the Camino de Santiago (500 miles) and would love to climb Kilimanjaro.

What do you love most about the outdoors?

Fresh air and a new perspective are always available when I get outside. I’m better outside than inside.

What is your favorite piece of gear on the trail?

I love good shoes. It’s my first point of contact with the earth.

What advice do you have for other weekend warriors who want to learn how to camp or backpack?

Go with people who know more than you do today. Most are happy to share their passion for hiking and camping.

Where are you planning your next camping trip?

I am planning to backpack The Lost Coast Trail in Northern California.

What is your favorite Shoestring Adventures memory?

I enjoyed learning in the outdoors at Sturtevant Camp.

The perfect s’more?

I like a little caramel in there between chocolate and ‘mallow.
