Best of 2018

As you may know, Shoestring Adventures will be going on hiatus in 2019. We will be embarking on a new adventure and look forward to sharing updates with you in the future. But before we begin the next chapter, we would like to take a moment to reflect on our favorite memories and accomplishments of 2018.

Trip leaders Heather, Canyon, Graham, and Jacqueline led 10 Shoestring Adventures, including 5 backpacking and 5 car camping trips. We explored 3 state parks and 5 national parks, including a new trip to the Grand Canyon.

Blog editor Yosefa, social media manager Shani, community engagement coordinator Abbey and strategic advisor Cyndee continued to support our community operations, while Ambassadors Ari, Laurie and Shana led free Meetups for Shoestring Warriors from Los Angeles to San Diego.

We invited 7 talented Triptographers to document our adventures: Mike Struna, Shani Leead, Amanda Proudfit, Clare Healy, Mikaela Hamilton, Lindsey Shea, and Stepfanie Aguilar

Last but not least, we had the honor of partnering with 3 life-changing organizations, including Leave No Trace, Outdoor Women’s Alliance and First Descents.

Looking back, I, Alyx Schwarz, am deeply proud of the community we’ve grown over the past 4 years. I never imagined that recovery from back surgery could change my life in such a meaningful way.

I am so grateful for all of the memories we have shared. We have climbed mountains, weathered storms and become lifelong friends in the process. Shoestring Adventures will continue to live on in stories told around the campfire, and hopefully, with the occasional Meetup hike.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of the Shoestring Family. Cheers to new adventures in 2019. I look forward to staying in touch!
