Meet Shoestring Warrior and Touring VIP Coordinator Heather

If you’re a music lover and wish you could follow your favorite band around the world but have no clue how to make that happen, take a few minutes to learn more about Shoestring Warrior Heather. She literally gets paid to travel the globe. On her time off, she explores the world around her.

Usually I’m the one planning day off excursions and by doing so I’m sharing my passion with my fellow tour mates!

Born and raised in New Hampshire, when she’s not hiking in Scotland or exploring a new city on a day off, she enjoys hiking the mountains near her home (where she has lived her entire life). Check out our interview below to learn more about our friend Heather, including how her love for music led to a career in the concert touring industry!

Follow her adventures on Instagram.

Shoestring Warrior: Heather

Current Location:

Profession:

Touring VIP Coordinator

What are your passions outside of work?

Hiking! I also love finding new (to me) and quirky/weird places to explore.

How would you describe your level of camping experience?

I’d like to think I’m an intermediate camper at least! I camp often, and alone. I know what to bring (what NOT to bring) and how to keep myself comfortable out there.

Shoestring Adventures Trip Completed:

Yosemite Camping Adventure

Tell us about yourself!

Well… I like kittens, BREAKFAST and a good cup of tea! I’m from New Hampshire, and I’ve lived in the same house my entire life. When I was in high school I started an online music magazine with some friends I had met on a message board (yay internet!) which ultimately led me to a career in the concert touring industry for well over 10 years now – it’s been a pretty wild ride since. I enjoy hiking, camping and road trips and that’s pretty much what I’m doing if I’m not working.

When did you first discover your love for the outdoors?

Really just a few years ago. I had always gone camping and hiking as a kid, but not often. I started doing some solo hikes while I wasn’t touring and just realized how much I really loved it and just loved being outside and spending my time in the woods. There is nothing like it. I’m sure you can all relate!

When did you first discover your love for music?

Right around the time Hanson hit the music scene, I became obsessed and pretty much got into every boy band since! (I also like to listen to non pop music, but I just can’t help myself)

How has touring enabled you to combine both passions?

It’s allowed me to travel further and explore more than I could have ever imagined. I feel incredibly lucky. Usually I’m the one planning day off excursions and by doing so I’m sharing my passion with my fellow tour mates!

What is your favorite destination you’ve traveled to on tour?

That’s a tough one, I’ve definitely been to a LOT of places over the years. Tybee Island sticks out, I had a great day off there a few years ago. Omaha, NE has unexpectedly become one of my favorite places ever. Just go there and you’ll see why. I recently got to visit Scotland as well and that was pretty amazing seeing some of those mountains up close!

What are your top 3 favorite road trip songs?

If I had to pick JUST 3 right now… I Would Do Anything For Love by Meatloaf, Touch by Little Mix, Anything by BSB!

What advice do you have for Shoestring Warriors on finding adventure wherever you go?

Don’t be afraid to go alone.

If you want to go somewhere, see something, hike a mountain, take a long drive… just go.

What is your favorite piece of outdoor gear to bring on tour?

My ENO hammock! Whether I’m stuck inside a venue or I have a day off outside I can pretty much use it anywhere.

Now that you have been on a Shoestring Adventure in Yosemite, can you tell us your favorite memory?

That was such a great trip! Meeting everyone and exploring the valley was really fun – but we did a hike to Glacier Point and while the views were amazing, I just loved all of the in between stuff. The little waterfalls, and hidden falls and wild animals along the way! The unexpected is always the best part of any trip.

Words to live by?

Live free or die.

Where to next?

Once I finish this tour in Europe I am spending a few extra days in the UK to visit Snowdonia National park in Wales! Very excited about that..and getting home to my own mountains for some more hiking before I start work on the US run of this tour.

The perfect s’more?

I keep it OG. I love to have a really burnt marshmallow though.
