Tell us about your Shoestring Adventures!
I’ve been lucky enough to go on two Shoestring Adventures. My favorite part about my adventures in King’s Canyon and Joshua Tree was meeting the campers! It really is a unique experience: going out into the wild to camp with people you’ve never met. To me it is the most valuable part because those conversations and friendships last longer than the trip.
What advice do you have for first-time campers who want to get outdoors?
My advice to first-time campers is to go. There is so much valuable information on travel destinations and how to camp and what to pack and yes, there is a certain amount of preparation that needs to be done before you enter the wild. But in my experience the hardest part is carving out the time and reminding myself to break away from my routine and go wild. Work, responsibilities, and emails will always be there, but the Joshua Trees don’t bloom every year. Go see them if you have the chance. The most important thing is to get yourself in your vehicle and drive (at least bring plenty of water). Everything else can be found along the way, and you can always sleep in your car.
The perfect s’more?
My perfect s’more is constructed with those dark chocolate peanut buttercups from TJ’s.
