What are your passions outside of work?

Traveling, traveling, traveling, metal-smithing, cooking, Pilates, photography

How would you describe your level of camping experience?

Beginner – I went camping for the first time with Shoestring Adventures!

Tell us about your Shoestring Adventures!

I met Alyx at The Unique Camp in 2015. She was my camp counselor! Alyx was simply so sweet, helpful and a great companion I adored her immediately! I wanted to support her passion and explore new territory, so I joined a Shoestring Adventure on my first visit to Joshua Tree in 2015! The women I met on the trip were wonderful and distinct in their own fierce ways. It was truly a beautiful weekend. There was a mixture of hiking, fireside chats, wine, art, photo sessions and laughter, of course.

The night I got back, my mom died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. That time in Joshua Tree made me feel close to heaven and everything that’s good, including my mom, who was very much in my thoughts. Having that special memory precede such a tough time is something that will always be treasured. My mom would have loved it.

What advice do you have for first-time campers who want to get outdoors?

If you are tentative, don’t be. Start within your comfort zone  2 nights vs. 7 nights. Look for a company like Shoestring Adventures that takes care of the details. You just show-up with the items on the checklist Alyx provides. SO. EASY. SO. FUN.

The perfect s’more?

Everything is better with peanut butter! I haven’t tried it yet, but… I will next time!
